If your cat may need urgent help
Do not wait for a website response. Contact your veterinarian, a local emergency veterinary hospital, or the appropriate animal poison service in your country. Catopedia does not monitor messages as an emergency service.
This disclaimer applies to Catopedia’s breed profiles, health and wellness articles, care guides, nutrition content, directory pages, illustrations, downloadable resources and other cat-related material.
Educational purpose
Catopedia publishes general information to help readers understand cat breeds, welfare, preventive care, health considerations and questions they may wish to discuss with a veterinary professional.
Our material is informational and does not constitute veterinary, medical, diagnostic, treatment, pharmaceutical, nutritional, legal or other professional advice.
No veterinarian–client–patient relationship
Catopedia is not a veterinary clinic. Accessing the website, using its search features, downloading material, sending a message or receiving a response from Catopedia does not establish a veterinarian–client–patient relationship or any other professional-care relationship.
Why that matters
Safe clinical care depends on a qualified professional evaluating the individual animal, relevant history and circumstances within the requirements of the applicable jurisdiction.
Every cat requires individual assessment
Cats of the same breed can differ substantially. Age, genetics, reproductive status, current symptoms, prior conditions, medications, diet, environment and examination findings can all affect professional recommendations.
- Do not use general content as a diagnosis.
- Do not delay or disregard veterinary advice because of Catopedia content.
- Ask a veterinarian about changes in symptoms, behaviour, appetite, weight, drinking, elimination, mobility or comfort.
- Seek a second professional opinion when appropriate.
Emergency and poison concerns
Catopedia cannot determine whether a situation is urgent and does not provide emergency triage. Online information may be incomplete, delayed or unsuitable for the circumstances.
Act directly when time may matter
Contact a veterinarian or emergency veterinary hospital. For possible poisoning, contact a veterinarian or an animal poison service operating in your location. Do not rely on comments, email, social media or website forms for urgent assistance.
Medication, supplements and treatment
Do not start, stop, combine, substitute or change the dose of any medication, supplement, parasite-control product or treatment based solely on Catopedia content. Products intended for people or other animals may be inappropriate or unsafe for cats.
Use medications and therapeutic products only as directed by the prescribing or supervising veterinary professional and the authorized label applicable where you live.
Nutrition and feeding information
Nutrition content is general. Appropriate feeding depends on the individual cat’s life stage, body condition, health, activity, reproductive status and the completeness and suitability of the diet. Therapeutic diets and significant dietary changes should be discussed with a veterinarian.
No universal “best” diet
Brand, ingredient or feeding-method discussions do not guarantee suitability, safety, prevention or treatment for a particular cat.
Genetics, screening and health testing
Genetic variants and screening results can indicate risk or inform responsible breeding, but they do not by themselves diagnose every condition or guarantee present or future health. Interpretation may depend on breed, test method, clinical findings, family history and current evidence.
Owners and breeders should use qualified veterinary professionals and appropriate laboratories to select and interpret testing.
Breed tendencies are not guarantees
Health concerns described in breed profiles are population-level tendencies or documented considerations—not predictions about an individual cat. A listed condition does not mean every cat of that breed will develop it, and an unlisted condition can still occur.
Sources, review and changing evidence
Catopedia aims to use credible veterinary, regulatory, registry and research sources and to distinguish supported information from uncertainty. Nevertheless, science, clinical guidance, product information and laws change. Content may contain errors, omissions or information that has become outdated.
Publication or a review date does not guarantee that every statement reflects the latest guidance in every country.
External links, experts and commercial content
Links, quotations, expert review, directory listings and references are supplied for context. They do not make Catopedia responsible for external websites or establish a professional relationship with their authors or organizations.
If content is sponsored, affiliated or commercially supported, Catopedia should disclose that relationship. Commercial support does not turn general information into individualized veterinary advice or a product guarantee.
Use of information and responsibility
You are responsible for deciding how to use website information and for obtaining suitable professional care. To the extent permitted by applicable law, Catopedia is not responsible for harm arising from treating general content as individualized veterinary advice, delaying professional care, or using products or treatments without appropriate guidance.
Nothing in this disclaimer excludes rights or responsibilities that applicable law does not permit parties to exclude.
