Terms of Use

These Terms explain the rules for accessing Catopedia, using its educational content, submitting information and interacting with breed, breeder and rescue resources.

Effective: August 20, 2026Last reviewed: August 20, 2026

TERMS AT A GLANCE01Education, not diagnosis

Catopedia provides general information—not individualized veterinary, legal or professional advice.

02Listings are not guarantees

Independently verify breeders, rescues, health records, contracts and local requirements.

03Respect the work

Personal reference is welcome; unauthorized copying, scraping and republication are not.

04Use the site responsibly

Do not misuse forms, interfere with security or submit unlawful or misleading material.

This summary is provided for convenience. The complete Terms below govern if there is any inconsistency.

01

Acceptance of these Terms

These Terms of Use form an agreement between you and Catopedia concerning your access to and use of catopedia.com, its pages, tools, directories, forms and related services that link to these Terms.

By accessing or using Catopedia, you confirm that you have read, understood and agreed to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you use Catopedia on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organization where applicable.

Mandatory rights remain

These Terms apply only to the extent permitted by law. They do not limit consumer, privacy or other statutory rights that cannot legally be excluded or waived.

02

Eligibility and younger visitors

Catopedia is a general-audience educational website. If you are below the age at which you can agree to website terms independently where you live, use Catopedia only with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian.

A parent or guardian who permits a younger person to use the website should help that person understand these Terms and avoid submitting unnecessary personal information. Catopedia does not currently require ordinary readers to create an account to browse educational content.

03

Changes to these Terms

Catopedia may update these Terms when features, laws, business practices or risks change. The effective or review date will be revised when appropriate. Material changes may also be highlighted through a notice on the website.

Your continued use after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance to the extent allowed by law. If a change requires express agreement or consent, Catopedia will request it separately.

04

Catopedia’s educational purpose

Catopedia provides general educational and reference information about cat breeds, care, health, behaviour, nutrition, history, registries, responsible ownership and related organizations.

Content is intended as a starting point for learning. It may summarize complex subjects and cannot account for every cat, household, jurisdiction, registry rule or change in evidence. You remain responsible for evaluating information and obtaining appropriate professional assistance.

05

Veterinary and health information

Catopedia is not a veterinary clinic and does not establish a veterinarian-client-patient relationship. Content does not provide diagnosis, treatment, prescriptions, individualized diet plans or emergency instructions for a particular cat.

  • Consult a qualified veterinarian about symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, medication, nutrition and individual risk.
  • Do not delay professional care because of something read on Catopedia.
  • Genetic or screening information does not guarantee that a cat is healthy or will remain healthy.
  • When a situation may be urgent, contact an appropriate veterinarian or local emergency service directly.

General information only: The individual cat’s history, examination, test results, environment and professional assessment matter.

06

Breed profiles and comparisons

Breed descriptions present official standards, documented history, commonly reported tendencies and general care considerations. They are not promises about the size, temperament, intelligence, compatibility, lifespan or health of an individual cat.

Standards differ

Breed-recognition and appearance rules can vary by registry, country and date.

Cats remain individuals

Genetics, socialization, health, environment and life experience all influence behaviour and wellbeing.

Ratings are guides

Scores and comparisons simplify broad tendencies and should not be treated as scientific predictions.

Availability changes

Recognition, organizations and responsible-breeding expectations may change over time.

07

Breeder, rescue and directory listings

Directory listings are provided to help visitors discover organizations. Unless expressly stated otherwise, inclusion does not mean that Catopedia has inspected, certified, guaranteed or permanently endorsed the listed organization, its animals, facilities, statements or practices.

  • Independently verify identity, registration and current standing.
  • Request and review health-screening and veterinary documentation.
  • Assess contracts, return policies, living conditions and socialization.
  • Confirm local laws, import rules and transportation requirements.
  • Use secure, traceable payment practices and investigate warning signs.

Listing information can become outdated. Catopedia may edit, suspend or remove listings according to its directory policies, welfare concerns, documentation, legal requirements or website interests, but is not obligated to monitor every organization continuously.

Paid placement is not certification

Featured, sponsored or paid visibility may affect placement or presentation, but it does not convert a listing into a health guarantee or personal recommendation.

08

Information you submit

You may send corrections, sources, questions, listing information, feedback or other material through Catopedia. You retain ownership of material you own. By submitting it, you grant Catopedia a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, review, reproduce, format, edit and use that material as reasonably necessary to investigate the request, respond, maintain records and improve or publish Catopedia content.

You confirm that:

  • You have the right and authority to submit the material.
  • The material is accurate to the best of your knowledge and is not intentionally misleading.
  • Its submission and Catopedia’s permitted use will not violate another person’s privacy, confidentiality, copyright, trademark or other rights.
  • It does not contain unlawful, threatening, malicious, defamatory, fraudulent or harmful content.
  • You have disclosed relevant commercial or organizational interests where appropriate.

Do not submit confidential information or trade secrets. Catopedia cannot promise that unsolicited ideas or general suggestions will remain confidential. Personal information is handled according to the Privacy Policy.

Catopedia may display advertising, sponsored material, featured listings or affiliate links. A commercial relationship may result in compensation when you view, click or complete a transaction. Material relationships should be disclosed in a clear manner appropriate to the content.

13

Website availability and changes

Catopedia may add, modify, correct, relocate, restrict, suspend or remove content or features without guaranteeing continuous availability. Maintenance, security events, provider failures, legal requirements and technical problems may interrupt access.

14

Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Catopedia and its content are provided on an “as available” and “as is” basis. Catopedia does not promise that every page will be complete, current, error-free, uninterrupted, secure or suitable for a particular decision.

15

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Catopedia and those involved in operating it will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive loss arising from use of—or inability to use—the website, reliance on general information, third-party conduct, directory interactions, data loss or service interruption.

Catopedia’s responsibility is not excluded or limited where doing so would be unlawful, including any liability that applicable law does not allow parties to waive. Nothing in these Terms limits responsibility for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, wilful misconduct or other responsibility that cannot legally be excluded.

Your decisions remain your responsibility

Use appropriate professional advice, independent verification and reasonable judgment before making veterinary, purchasing, breeding, adoption, legal or financial decisions.

16

Governing law and disputes

Before starting formal proceedings, you are encouraged to contact Catopedia with a clear description of the issue so the parties can attempt a reasonable informal resolution.
